Rio Bec Dreams Hotel & Restaurant
Situated in the natural beauty of Southern Campeche (by Becan and Chicanna – just outside Xpujil), Rio Bec Dreams is your gateway to tour the ancient Maya ruins of Calakmul and the Rio Bec. We are both ecologically conscientious and committed to hospitality.
Here you will find luxury in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve: well-appointed jungle cabanas, a continental full-service Restaurant, and everything required to relax or recharge for the next day’s adventure.
We’re not just owner-operators: we are Maya fanatics, eager to introduce you to one of the most historically and architecturally significant regions of the ancient Maya world. Come browse our library, hang out with fellow explorers and swap stories at the restaurant bar until late each night.
We offer 7 comfortable accomodations: 4 private Jungalows, 3 with a double bed and 1 with two individual beds; and 3 larger Cabañas, each with a queen-size bed and either 2 single beds in a separate bedroom or 1 single bed also in the large bedroom. All are well-appointed, with private bathrooms, comforters, coffee supplies and private porches. All of our Cabañas have a private screened porch.

Calakmul & The Rio Bec
We are situated in the midst of the Maya ruins of the Rio Bec area: Becan, Xpujil, Chicanna, Hormiguero, Balamku and dozens of other sites are right next door, with their elaborate monster mask temple fronts, false double towers, and all of the beautiful and eclectic features that make the Rio Bec style one of the most sophisticated in the Maya world.
Almost all of our guests spend a day at nearby Calakmul, the vast site in the Peten rainforest that was at the center of Maya history in the Classic period. There you can scale Structure II, the largest Maya pyramid in Mexico. Monkeys, coatimundis, toucans, turkeys, peccaries, deer and even jaguars wander the ruins; for even more nature visit the nearby Bat Cave where a million-bat vortex streams into the jungle at twilight every night.
Classic Maya cities Dzibanche and Kohunlich are also within comfortable driving distance and together make a pleasant day trip.
You can spend days exploring this fascinating and largely untouristed corner of Southern Campeche, with something surprising to discover each day. There are new archaeological finds in the jungle here every year; we follow them eagerly and occasionally post about them and the archaeologists who make them here.
